Tokina created the 1.6x Expander so that cinematographers can use their favorite Super35 PL lenses on the latest full-frame 6K/8K cameras. The Expander increases the diameter of image circle by 1.6x on Super35 PL prime and zoom lenses. This allows for a greater variety of lens choices when filming with cameras like the RED Dragon that has a 46.31mm (8K) diagonal sensor. Tokina engineers gave special attention to the 7-element optical design to ensure the integrity of the original lens__ performance and to keep light fall off to a manageable 1.36 stops. The all mechanical design is robust, durable, and lightweight. The Tokina 1.6x Expander performs best when used with lenses that have a T2.0 or larger aperture and when the lens is stopped down to T2.8 or smaller.

The PL to PL Mount 1.6X Expander from Tokina is designed to enable the use of Super35 format PL lenses with full-frame 6-8K HD PL-mount cameras. This expander enlarges the diameter of the image circle on the camera's sensor by a factor of 1.6x, suiting the lens for use with cameras with up to 1.85" sensors. This adapter is compatible with PL mount lenses that have a clearance of less than 20mm from the PL mount tabs to the tip of the PL cone. The adapter includes a Clearance Check tool for checking compatibility of the lens. The adapter is compatible with most Super35 or Super16 PL mount lenses that are 32mm and longer as well as most zoom lenses." Constructed with seven elements in four groups, the 1.6X Expander features an aperture compensation of just 1.36 T-stops. This expander works best with lenses with T2.0 or larger apertures and when stopped down to T2.8 or less.
