The Canon EOS R8 Mark II Mirrorless Camera combines full-frame image quality, advanced stabilization, intelligent autofocus, and powerful video capabilities in a lightweight, travel-friendly body. Designed for hybrid creators, photographers, filmmakers, and content creators on the move, the R8 Mark II delivers a versatile balance of portability and performance for both still photography and video production.

At the heart of the camera is a 24.2MP full-frame CMOS sensor, providing detailed imagery with the depth and creative flexibility expected from a full-frame system. Improved burst shooting and a dedicated pre-capture mode help photographers respond to fast-moving or unpredictable subjects, while intelligent autofocus provides reliable subject detection and tracking across a variety of shooting situations.

For handheld shooting, the R8 Mark II incorporates In-Body Image Stabilization (IBIS) rated for up to 7.5 stops. This added stabilization helps reduce the effects of camera shake when capturing stills or video without a tripod, making the camera particularly useful for travel, documentary work, events, and mobile productions where keeping equipment lightweight is a priority.

Video capabilities make the R8 Mark II an equally capable filmmaking tool. The full-frame sensor supports 6K-oversampled 4K recording at up to 60p with 10-bit color, delivering detailed footage with greater flexibility for professional post-production and color workflows. Its combination of high-quality video capture and compact construction makes it well suited for creators who regularly transition between photography and filmmaking.

With its redesigned portable body, 24.2MP full-frame sensor, 7.5-stop IBIS, intelligent autofocus, enhanced burst shooting, pre-capture functionality, and 6K-oversampled 4K 60p 10-bit video, the Canon EOS R8 Mark II is a versatile hybrid camera built for creators who want full-frame performance without weighing down their production kit.

High-Speed Electronic Shutter

Never miss the moment of peak action with the R8 Mark II thanks to high-speed burst shooting and the addition of pre-capture.

  • The R8 Mark II incorporates a pre-capture mode that begins recording images to the buffer when the shutter button is half-pressed. You can capture up to 20 frames within a half second, and the images will be saved upon fully pressing the shutter.
  • Up to 40 fps of continuous shooting is possible with improved buffer capacity over the original R8. Capture up to 73 shots uninterrupted when shooting RAW, a 30% increase, and 190 shots when shooting JPEG, a 55% increase.

Intelligent Autofocus

  • The Register People Priority autofocus function is an invaluable tool for weddings, lifestyle shoots, group portraits, and more. Once faces are registered in the camera, the autofocus can be set to prioritize individuals over other subjects in the scene. This ensures that your focus stays locked on the bride, lead model, or keynote speaker, not on random members of the audience.
  • The advanced Dual Pixel CMOS AF II system provides 100% frame coverage, allowing you to track subjects from edge to edge while maintaining razor-sharp focus.
  • Intelligent subject detection can be set to recognize people, animals, and vehicles for both still and video capture. Once set, focus can be prioritized to recognize faces, eyes, driver helmets, and more, ensuring your image is razor-sharp exactly where you need it to be.
  • A low-luminance limit of -7.5 EV makes it possible to accurately focus in dark conditions such as concerts, clubs, and outdoor night shoots.

7.5 Stops of IBIS

Whether you're trying to capture smooth handheld video or slow your shutter speed for long exposures, the R8 Mark II's 5-axis image stabilization helps you capture exactly what you envisioned. The IBIS unit seamlessly combines with your lens to deliver 7.5 stops of shake correction at the center and 7 stops at the edges for still images.

Compact Video Powerhouse

  • Record stunning 6K-oversampled UHD 4K video at up to 60p with 10-bit color straight out of the camera for vlogs, content creation, travel videos, and more.
  • Capture slow-motion in Full HD at up to 180p to reveal minute details or create fast-motion timelapses to show the passage of time, all in-camera without complex post-production.
  • For advanced color grading needs, Canon Log 3 with 14 stops of dynamic range is available in the Custom Picture mode. Also featured are HDR video options, Canon 709, and BT.709 Standard for simpler workflows.
  • A red tally lamp is incorporated on the subject side of the camera, making it easy to recognize when movie recording is in progress.

Creative Modes

Whether this is your first camera or you're a working professional, the R8 Mark II's internal creative modes make it easy to capture an image exactly how you want it without any post-processing.

  • The SCN (special scene) setting on the camera's mode dial provides a set of 14 automated presets ideal for specific use cases ranging from studio portraiture to handheld night cityscapes.
  • Positive and negative filmtone modes digitally recreate the texture and toning of classic positive slide film and negative film in-camera for a retro, analog look.
  • The Advanced A+ mode recognizes the scene and performs intelligent bracketing and image processing to produce an optimal final image.

Travel-Friendly Design

Breaking away from the original R8, the Mark II features a modern flat-surface design for an ergonomic, easily packed body profile.

  • Newly incorporated multi-controller joystick, conveniently placed to make it easy to adjust focus points and navigate around the camera screen using your thumb.
  • For a traditional shooting experience, a bright 2.36m-dot OLED EVF is provided. The EVF supports up to a 120 fps refresh rate and has been designed to provide a bright, sharp, and colorful 100% view of the subject at hand.
  • When trying to compose from unusual angles, the large 3.0" 1.62m-dot vari-angle LCD touchscreen is an indispensable tool for previewing your frame. With touch and drag functionality, you can intuitively and swiftly move the autofocus point on the touch-panel LCD.

Wired and Wireless Connection

  • The R8 Mark II features a USB-C port for charging and data transfer, a micro-HDMI port for video output, a stereo microphone input, and a stereo headphone output. Also incorporated is an E3-type remote port for wired control.
  • Built-in Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity let you easily connect the camera to compatible smart devices using the free Canon Camera Connect app for remote control and file transfer. It also sends continuously updated GPS location data from your phone, making it possible to add location metadata to your images.
  • Wi-Fi support also allows the R8 Mark II to act as a video source for multi-camera live-switching setups through integration with Canon Live Switcher Mobile.
  • Physically connect the camera to a smartphone or computer via the USB-C port. All Canon Camera Connect app features that can be used with Wi-Fi are now available when the camera and smartphone are connected via USB, using a compatible cable for your device. UVC/UAX support also allows the R8 Mark II to serve as a webcam when connected with no additional software needed.

Multi-Function Shoe

Improving on a standard hot shoe, the Canon Multi-Function Shoe adds a row of pins at the front of the design to permit greater accessory functionality as well as provide power to select accessory types that traditionally rely on separate batteries.
