The Venus Optics Laowa 58mm f/2.8 2X Ultra Macro APO Lens for Canon RF is a mirrorless designed macro lens with a 40.9 degree angle of view on full frame sensors. It features an apochromatic (APO) characteristic that chromatic aberration at both "in-focus" & "out-of-focus" is compressed to minimum. This lens is like many other Laowa macro lenses which are able to focus from 2:1 magnification to infinity which can serve as both macro and portrait lens. It has 3 extra-low dispersion (ED) glasses and 3 glasses with Ultra-High Refractive Index which produces pictures with outstanding sharpness.
Up to 2x Magnification
This new 58mm lens can focus infinity to 2x magnification along with a minimum focusing distance of 7.29" (18.5cm). More details of the objects can be captured. In the meantime, it can serve as a portrait lens with 40.9 degree angle of view.
Apochromat APO Design
The chromatic aberration (CA) at both in-focus and out-of-focus area (Longitudinal CA) is controlled to the minimal. The photos of less CA also avoid time-consuming post production.
Outstanding Sharpness
The lens consists of 3 ED glasses and 3 glasses with Ultra-High Refractive Index which delivers stunning details and contrast from centre to corner.
Deeper Depth of Field
As the lens has shorter focal length than the general macro lenses in the market, it can create images with longer DOF. It could make the background more visible with the same aperture. It is beneficial when photographer hopes to create visual narratives.
Internal Focusing
The design of internal focusing avoids collision of the lens and the objects. It also prevents the dust or ashes from falling into the lens.
Smooth Bokeh
The lens is assembled with 13 aperture blades, which is able to create round and pleasing bokeh.
