The Tiffen 40.5mm Black Pro-Mist 1/2 Filter helps to reduce the value of the highlights while noticeably lowering the overall contrast. This filter is especially useful for smoothing out and softening facial wrinkles and other blemishes. While designed for use with movies, this filter can also be used for fashion and beauty applications. Unlike a traditional diffusion or soft focus filter, Pro-Mist filters provide little loss of detail across the image. The 1/8 density provides less contrast and highlight reduction than the 1/4, while also allowing for a soft, pastel-like quality of light. Tiffen filters are made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass and grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch. Pro-Mist filters provide little loss of detail across the image compared to traditional diffusion and soft focus filters. about this product or anything else

These Hollywood/FX® filters were originally designed for the TV and Motion Picture industry, but are now available to all photographers and videographers.

These filters flare highlights, mute colors, and tone down contrast, while retaining rich blacks. This is a very useful combination of effects for 16mm and 35mm film, as well as for HD and standard video. These are primarily styling, or mood modifying filters. Depending on the grade chosen, they subtly enhance a scene without degrading the image quality or black saturation. Black Frost enables cinematographers to capture blacker blacks than are possible with similar types of filters.

Black Frost filters are made using a remarkable, new diffusion technology, to achieve a unique image styling that can be applied freely, without fear of having scenes appear "heavy-handed."

By solving the problems of excessive light scatter and veiling glare associated with similar filters, Black Frost filters make possible a higher level of control and convenience.

This filter is available in strengths of 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5. These strengths achieve a subtle filmic type look to a heavy diffusion.
